An AC generator can be converted into a DC generator by replacing the slip rings of an AC generator with the commutator of DC generator,
Working; The only difference between AC and DC current is that in case of AC the current Alternates the direction in the loop but in the case of DC the current always flows in the same direction.
Generating slip ring is fixed with one side arm of the loop hence after 1800 turn of the loop the end becomes opposite polar than the previously charged. So the current flows in the opposite direction.
But in the case of the commutator which is just softly attached to the brushes they are exchanged with each other after every 1800 turn.So although one end changes it's terminal yet it gets attached with other brush. Hence net effect is cancelled out and current follows the original direction.
