An aeroplane flying horizontal 1 km above the ground is observed at an elevation of 60. After 10 seconds, its elevation is observed to be 30. Find the speed of the aeroplane in km/hr.

Let AC be the height of the aeroplane above the ground

In ABC,

tan60=ACBC

3=1x

x=13 ...(1)

Now, In BED,

tan30o=EDBD

13=1x+y

1=313+y [From (1)]

13+y=3

y=23 km

Speed=DistanceTime

=23 km10 seconds

=23 km1060×60 hr

=2×60×6010×3

=7203 (Take 3=1.73)

=415.69kmhr
