Question

An aeroplanewing has an area 50m2the speed of air flowing above wing and below wing is 100ms-1and 80ms-1. Find the aerodynamic lifting force acting on the aeroplane wing if density of air is 1.3kgm-3

Solution

Using the relation,
Pabove+(ρair2) v2above=Pbelow+(ρair2) v2belowThe difference in pressure accounts for the aerodynamic lift.i.e. Difference in pressure=Resultant force per unit area on the wingSo, aerodynamic lift=Pbelow-Pabove=(ρair2) v2above-(ρair2) v2below=1.32[1002-802]=1.32(100+80) (100-80)=1.32×180×20=2340 Pa
