Question

An air-standard dual cycle has a compression ratio of 10. The pressure and temperature at the beginning of compressing are 1 bar and 27C. The temperature after constant volume heat addition is 987C and ned heat supplied to the cycle is 878 kJ/kg. What will be the cut-off ratio of the cycle?

Solution

The correct option is D 1.40

Heat supplied/kg=cv(T3T2)+cp(T4T3)...(i)

T2T1=(V2V1)γ1=(10)1.41

T2=(10)0.4×300

753.57K=480.57C

Now, from equation (i)

878=0.717(987480.57)+1.004(T4987)

T4=1499.84C=1772.84K

Cut-off ratio,γc=V4V3

For constant pressure process(3-4)

V4V3=T4T3

so,γc=T4T3=1772.841260=1.407

[T3=987C=1260K]
