As we know that the when the sum of the two angles are equal to 180^o they are called supplementary angles.

Now let assum that one of the angle be a^o, the the other angle will be (a + 40)^o.
$$\begin{gathered} \mathrm{Then}:\mathrm{a}+(\mathrm{a}+40°)=180° \\ 2\mathrm{a}=180°-40° \\ 2\mathrm{a}=140° \\ \mathrm{a}=70° \\ \mathrm{So}\mathrm{the}\mathrm{so}\mathrm{other}\mathrm{angle}\mathrm{will}\mathrm{be}(70°+40°)=110° \end{gathered}$$
