Question

An angle is 20 more than its complement find the measure of it?

Open in App
Solution

x = given angle
y = complement

x and y are complementary angles, so, x+y = 90

y = 90 - x

------------------------------------

"An angle is 20 degrees more than its complement" which means x = y + 20

x = y - 20

x = (90-x) + 20 ... plug in y = 90-x

x = 90-x+20

x = -x+110

x+x = 110

2x = 110

x =110/2

x = 55

y=90-55=35

The angle is 55 degrees (the complement is 90-55 = 35 degrees)

You can see that x=20+y= 20+35 =55
