Solution

An aqueous solution X reacts with sodium chloride to form white precipitate of compound Y which is photosensitive. Y on heating gets decomposed to metal and gives a pungent smelling yellowish green gas. As the pungent smelling yellowish green gas is chlorine and compound Y is photosensitive which is AgCl. Thus the compound X is AgNO3 and on treatment with NaCl gives white precipitate which is AgCl AgNO3 + NaCl AgCl + NaNO32 AgCl 2 Ag + Cl2
