Question

An article was purchased for Rs.1056, after getting the discount of 12%. What is the ratio of the discount for the original price?

Open in App
Solution

Total paid = ₹1056
Given discount = 12%
Let the original price = ₹X

Total paid = Original price - 12% of original price

So, 1056 = X - 12% X
= X -(12/100) X
= X - 0.12X
= 0.88X

So Original price,
X = 1056/0.88
= ₹1200

Dear student the last part of question is not clear
("The ratio of discount for the original price")

However the required fields are calculated. And I think the last required part is the % of paid price with respect to original price. (i.e., (1056/1200)×100)

The original price of article is ₹1200

So the paid price is 88% of the original price.
(Since 1056/1200 = 0.88)
