Question

An effort of 500N is applied through a distance of 0.50m on a machine, whose efficiency is 90%such that resistance is overcome through a distance of 0.04m. calculate the V.R.

Solution

1. Definition:

Efficiency:

The ratio of mechanical advantage(M.A) to the velocity ratio(V.R) is called Efficiency.

Efficiency = M.AV.R

Mechanical advantage:

The ratio of effort to the load is called mechanical advantage.

Mechanical advantage = effortload

Velocity ratio:

The ratio of distance traveled by the load to the distance traveled by the effort.

Velocity ratio =loadarmeffortarm

2. Solution:

Given that,

Efficiency = 90%

load arm = 0.04m

effort arm =0.50m

Velocity ratio(V.R) = loadarmeffortarm

= 0.500.04=12.5

3. Conclusion:

Hence, the velocity ratio is 12.5.
