Question

An electric heater has resistance of 12Ω and is operated from 220 volts power line. If no heat escapes from it time required to raise the temperature of 40 kg of water from 15oC to 80oC is (2700 + X) sec. Find the value of X.

Heat required =(40×103)×1×(8015)=26×105cal
Now, H=V2tR×4.2cal
t=HR×4.2V2
t=26×105×12×4.2220×220=2708seconds.

So x=8
