Question

An electric pole is 10 metres high. If its shadow is 10root3 metres in length, find the elevation of the Sun

Open in App
Solution

tan( angle of elevation of sun) = Opposite Side / Adjacent Side

Here opposite side is electric pole and adjacent side is shadow. Therefore

tan theta = 10/10root3

= 1/root3

We know that tan 30 = 1/root3

= 30degrees

therefore angle of elevation of sun is 30 degrees.
