Question

An electron and a photon each have a wavelength of 1.00 nm. Find
(a) their momenta,
(b) the energy of the photon, and
(c) the kinetic energy of electron.

Solution

(a) According to De Broglie hypothesis,
p=hλ

=6.6210341109=6.621025kgm/s
The value remains the same irrespective of electron or photon.

(b) λ=1 nm

E=hc/λe=1243.1eV=1.243 keV

(c) Momentum, p=h/λ=6.63×1025kgm/s

K.E. of electron is P2/2m=2.415×1019J=1.51 eV
