Question

An electron and a proton moving with the same speed enter the same magnetic field region at right angles to the direction of the field. For which of the two particles will the radius of circular path be smaller.

Solution

Fore on a charged particle in a magnetic field,
F=qVBsinθ
When θ=π2,F=qVB and for electron
=qVB=meV2re (i)
For proton;
qVB=mpV2rp (ii)
From equation i and ii;
memp=rerp
me<mp
re<rp thus radius of electron is smaller.
