Question

An electron enters perpendicularly to a uniform magnetic field 0.1N/ampm at a speed of 105m/s. Calculate the Lorentz force on the electron.

Open in App
Solution

Given:- B=0.1N/ampm
v=105m/s
qe=1.6×1019c
θ=90o=Angle between velocity and magnetic field
Lorentz force on electron is given by,
F=FE+FM
where FE=0=Force due to electric field ....(because there is no electric field)
F=0+FM=FM
Where FM=Magnetic force on electron,
and FM=qev×B=qevBsin(θ)=qevBsin(90o)=1.6×1019×105×0.1×1
F=FM=1.6×1015N
