Solution

Dear student,

Period No.=3, which means the no. of shells=3.
From the formula MO2 its valency is +4. (as valency of O is -2)
Therefore its valence shell has 4 electrons and it belongs to group (IV A).
Its electronic configuration is 2,8,4.( as it belongs to third period)
Hence the element is silicon, and its Atomic number= 14
The formula of its oxide is SiO2.
