Nonmetallic nature of an element:
Elements possessing upto 3 valence electrons tend to lose electrons to attain noble gas configuration, whereas the elements possessing 4 valence electrons may share, gain or lose electrons to attain noble gas configuration.
Similarly, elements having valence electrons above 4 electrons tend to gain electrons to complete their octets.
It is evident that the electropositivity decreases from left to right in a period, while electronegativity increases in any period in going from left to right.
That is metallic character decreases across the period as we move from left to right, and the non-metallic character increases.
Thus the element X which is present in group , seems to have non-metallic character.
