An empty density bottle weighs 30 g. When completely filled with water, it weighs 55 g and when completely filled with brine solution it weighs 55.5 g. Calculate:
• Volume of the density bottle
• Density of brine solution.
Let V be the volume of the bottle whose mass is 30 g.
When filled with water the bottle weighs 55 g
Therefore, Mass of water in the bottle, mw = 55 – 30 = 25 g
Density of water = mw/V = 1 g/cc
=> V = 25 cc
So, the volume of the bottle is = 25 cc.
When filled with Brine solution the bottle weighs 55.5 g.
So, mass of brine solution in the bottle, mb = 55.5 – 30 = 25.5 g
Therefore, density of the brine solution = mb/V = 25.5/25 = 1.02 g/cc
Hence volume of density bottle is 25cc and density of brine solution is 1.02 g/cc
