An exothermic reaction is favoured when the temperature is increased for a system in equilibrium.
False
Chemical equilibrium is the state in which both reactants and products are present in concentrations which have no further tendency to change with time. The factors which have an influence on chemical equilibrium are:
(i) Concentration
(ii) Pressure
(iii) Temperature
According to Le Chatelier's principle if there is any change in these factors then the system will readjust itself to counteract the change.
If the temperature is increased for a system in equilibrium then the equilibrium will shift to reduce the temperature. An endothermic reaction will be favoured.
If the temperature is decreased for a system in equilibrium then the equilibrium will shift to increase the temperature. An exothermic reaction will be favoured.
