Question

An ideal gas at pressure 1 bar and temperature 300 K is compressed till the final volume is 116th of the original volume following a polytropic process PV1.25= constant. If the final pressure of the gas is x×103 kPa, then x is

Open in App
Solution

A polytropic process is given by the equation PVη=constant
P1Vη1=P2Vη2 ..........(1)
Given,
P1=1 bar=105 Pa
V2=116V1
η=1.25
Substituting the given values in (1) we get,
105×V1.251=P2×(116)1.25V1.251
P2=32×105 Pa=3200 kPa
