Using first law of thermodynamics,
ΔQ=ΔU+ΔW
Since the gas is heated at constant pressure we can say that,
Heat supplied to the gas at constant pressure ΔQ=nCPΔT
Also, ΔW=PΔV=nRΔT,
Heat absorbed by the gas to increase its temperature is
ΔU=nCVΔT
Hence, fraction of heat used to raise the temperature is given by
ΔUΔQ=Increase in internal energyTotal heat aborbed=nCVΔTnCPΔT
ΔUΔQ=CVCP=1γ
Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
