XAΔH=q1.....(1)
BAΔH=q2
ABΔH=q2.....(2)
YBΔH=q3
BYΔH=q3.....(3)
Hess's Law states that regardless of the multiple stages or steps of a reaction, the total enthalpy change for the reaction is the sum of all changes.
Therefore,
Adding eqn(1),(2)&(3), we have
X+A+BA+B+YΔH=(q1)+(q2)+(q3)
XYΔH=q2q1+q3
Hence the heat of the reaction XY is q2q1+q3.
