An inductance of 2.0 H, a capacitance of 18μF and a resistance of 10kΩ are connected to an AC source of 20 V with adjustable frequency. (a) What frequency should be chosen to maximise the current in the circuit? (b) What is the value of this maximum current ?

(a) For current to be maximum in a circuit
XL=XC (Resonant Condition)

ωL=1ωC

ω2=1LC=12×18×106

=10636

ω=10362πf=1036

f=10006×2π = 26.539 Hz

= 27 Hz.

(b) Maximum current

= ER=2010×103

= 2A103 = 2mA

(Inresonance condition)
