Question

an infinite condiucting sheet has surface charge density sigma.the distance between two equipotential surface is r.The potential difference between these two surfaces is? as the surfaces are equipotential the potential difference should be zero?then what is correct answer ?

Solution

Dear student

The potential difference between the two surfaces is given by
V =E x r
where, E = Electric field between the plates
and r = distance between the plates.

The electric field between the plates is given by-
E = σ/ϵ0

Therefore, V = σ r /ϵ0
