Question

An infinite wire having charge density λ passes through one of the edges of a cube having edge length l. Find the flux passing through the surface in contact with wire.

Solution

field lines will be perpendicular to the infinite wire radiating away from the wire. These field lines will be parallel to all the 4 sides that are in touch with the wire. Therefore there will be no component of field lines crossing perpendicular to any of the 4 sides in contact. Hence electric flux is zero
