An inflated balloon was pressed against a wall after it has been rubbed with a piece of synthetic cloth. It was found that the balloon sticks to the wall. What force might be responsible for the attraction between the balloon and the wall?

  1. The force which is responsible for the attraction between the balloon and the wall is the electrostatic force.
  2. When we rub the balloon with a synthetic cloth, it gets charged.
  3. When it is taken near the wall, charges of opposite nature are induced on the wall,
  4. And these induced charges pull the balloon with a force that is electrostatic in nature.
  5. Thus, the balloon is attracted to the wall.
