  2. Sundial is the device that tells time using shadows. It shows the time based on the position of the sun in the sky.
  3. As the Sun moves across the sky, another part of the sundial casts a shadow on these markings. The position of the shadow shows what time it is.
  4. Depending on the location of the sun with respect to the dial, the dial would have different shadows by which people can approximately tell the time of the day.
  5. Sundial needs sunlight to work, so it works only during the daytime.
