An iron nail is immersed in a solution of copper sulphate of copper sulphate and when it is removed from the solution, it is coated with a layer of copper metal. After that a different iron nail is immersed in a solution of zinc nitrate and removed, this nail rusted just as rapidly as a new iron nail. Rank these three metals in order of activity from most active to least active.
Zn>Fe>Cu
Iron replaced copper from the solution because it loses electrons more rapidly than copper. The iron loses electrons and is oxidised and the copper gains electrons and is reduced. Iron is thus more active than copper. The iron nail that is immersed in zinc nitrate is rusted as fast as normal which means zinc is more active than iron.
