Given,
Space occupied by each grid
= 1 cm2

Number of complete grids occupied
= 12

And, number of less than half grids occupied
= 3

Area
= Number of complete grids occupied x 1 + Number of grids more than half occupied x 1 + number of less than half grids occupied x 0

Area = 12 × 1 + Number of grids more than half occupied × 1 + 3 × 0

15 cm2 = 12 × 1 + Number of grids more than half occupied × 1 + 3 × 0

Number of grids more than half occupied = 3
