Question

An isolated capacitor with a capacitance C has a potential difference between the plates of V, which leaves on each plate a charge Q.
A dielectric is then inserted in-between the plates, what affect does this have on the electric field between the plates?

Solution

The correct option is B The electric field decreases in magnitude.
When a dielectric is placed between the charged plates of a capacitors , due to polarisation in dielecric , an electric field is generated inside the dielectric , which is in opposite direction of the electric field between the plates , as a result of this , magnitude of electric field decreases between the plates .
