Solution

Let E1=Event that item is manufactured on A,

E2 = Event that an item is manufactured on B.

E3 = Event that an item is manufactured on C.

Let E be the event that an item is defective.

P(E1)=50100=12,P(E2)=30100=310andP(E3)=20100=15

P(EE1)=2100=150,P(EE2)=2100=150 and (EE3)=3100
P(E1E)=P(E1).P(EE1)P(E1).P(EE1)+P(E2).P(EE2)+P(E3).P(EE3)
=12.15012.150+310.150+15.3100
=11001100+3100+3100=11005+3+3500=511
