Question

An LCR circuit contains of 100 Ω resistance and an AC supply of 200 V at 300 rad/s angular frequency. When only capacitance is taken out from the circuit, the current lags the voltage by 60. If, on the other hand, only the inductor is taken out, the current leads the applied voltage by 60. The current flowing in the original circuit is,

Solution

The correct option is C 2 A
Case 1 : When only capacitor is removed,

tan60=XLR=ωLR

Case 2 : when only inductor is removed,

tan60=XCR=1ωCR

From the above conditions, we get

XL=XC

For the original circuit,

Z=R=100 Ω [Z=R2+(XLXC)2]

i=ErmsR=200100=2 A

Hence, (C) is the correct answer.
