Question

an n type semiconductor has excess of 5 electrons while a p type semiconductor has a deficiency of these. but when a p-n junction is formed, all the electrons do not flow from the n region to the p region. why

Solution

Dear student,
In PN junction diode instead of having deficiency of hole and excess of electron on negative and positive side respectively but there is no flow of same from either side to another side because the potential difference between these two sides of diode is less than the potential difference barrier set up at the junction which results in hindrance if movement of electrons and hole from one side to other.
