Question

An n-type silicon bar 0.1 cm long and 100 μm2 in cross-sectional area has a majority carrier concentration of 5×1020/m3 and the carrier mobility is 0.13 m2/Vs at 300 K. If the charge of an electron is 1.6×1019 Coulomb, then the resistance of the bar is

Solution

Ans :(a)
Given that,
l=0.1 cm=103m
A=100 μm2=100×1012m2
n=5×1020/m3
μn=0.13m2/Vsec
q=1.6×1019Col
We know that
Conductivity =σ=nqμn
Resistivity = ρ=1σ
Resistance =ρlA=lσA
R=103(5×1020)×(1.6×1019)(0.13)(100×1012)
R=106Ω
