Question

An object is dropped from a height h, when is its kinetic energy maximum?

Solution

Kinetic energy:

  1. The energy possessed by an object by virtue of its motion is called kinetic energy.
  2. The kinetic energy of the body of mass m and velocity v is given by
    K.E=12mv2
    or K.Eαmand,K.Eαv2
  3. So on increasing the speed the kinetic energy also increases
  4. On dropping any object from height, it falls freely so its initial velocity will be zero
  5. The speed of the object increases as it moves down and it becomes maximum just before touching the ground so,
  6. The kinetic energy of the object is maximum just before touching the ground.
