Question

An object is kept on the principal axis of a convex mirror of focal length 10 cm at a distance of 10 cm from the pole. The object starts moving at a velocity 20 mm/sec towards the mirror at angle 30o with the principal axis. What will be the speed of its image

Solution

By the mirror formula ,

1v=1f1u=1+10110

v=102=5 cm

VIx=(5)2(10)2(20×32)=532 mm/s

VIy=5(10)×20×12==5 mm//s

Speed of image V= (532)2+(5)2=572 mm/s

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
