(ii) We have focal length and object distance from the lens so, using lens formula,
1f=1v−1u ⟹ 1v=1f+1u
⟹1v=18+1−24=3−124=112
⟹v=12 cm
So, the image is formed at 12 cm on the other side of the lens between f and 2f.
(iii) We know that, the magnification of a lens is given by, m=vu=12−24=−12=−0.5
So, the magnification is 0.5 and the negative sign indicates that the image formed is inverted and since the magnification is less than 1, the image will be diminished as we mentioned in the first part of the question.
