Solution

Lens formula: 1 Mark
focal length: 2 Marks
Type of lens: 1 Mark

Here, Focal length of a concave lens, f =?
Distance of the object, u = - 20 cm
Distance of the image, v = - 12 cm
Using lens formula,1f=1v1u
1f=112120
1f=130
f=30cm
Hence the focal length of the lens is 30 cm. Negative sign indicates that it is a concave lens.
