Question

An object is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity is \mu, the greatest height It to which it will rise before falling back is given by :
(a) μ/g
(b) μ2/2g
(c) μ2/g
(d) μ/2g

Solution

A body is thrown vertically upward .
at maximum height velocity of body = 0
use kinematics formula ,
v² = u² + 2as

here v = 0
a = -g
s = H

0 = u² -2gH

H = u²/2g
hence, maximum height attained by body u²/2g
option ( b) is correct
