Question

An object O is kept perpendicular to the principal axis of a spherical mirror. Each situation (a,b,c and d) gives object coordinate u in centimeter with sign, the type of mirror, and then the distance (centimeters with sign) between the focal point and the pole of the mirror. On the right side information, regarding the image is given.
Correctly, match the situation on the left side with the images described on the right side.

Solution

(A) Given: u=-18 cm
concave mirror
f-12 cm
Solution: For a concave mirror, if object is beyond focal length and (4<2R) then image will be real inverted and enlarged.
(B) Given: u=-12 cm
concave mirror
f=18 cm
Solution: For a concave mirror if object is between focus and pole of mirror than image will be virtual
,erect and enlarged.
(C) Given: u= -8 cm
convex mirror
f=10 cm
Solution: We should always remember that convex mirror always form virtual, erect and diminished image.
(D) Given: u=-10 cm
convex mirror
f=8 cm
Solution: Convex mirror always form virtual, erect and diminished image.
