An object of mass 1 kg is at rest. A constant force of 10 N is applied on it for 2 seconds. Find the work done by the force on the object.
Given:
Force F=10 N
Mass of the object, m=1 kg
Time, t=2 s
Initial velocity, u=0 (the object was initially at rest).
Let a be the acceleration of the object.
We know that force, F = ma
∴ a=Fm
Using the second equation of motion:
s=ut+12at2
Substituting the corresponding values , we get,
s=0+12Fmt2
=12×101×(2)2
=20 m
Work done, W=F×s
∴W=F×s=10×20=200 J
Therefore, the work done by the force is 200 J
