Question

An object starts from rest, and moves under the acceleration a=4^i. Its position after 3s is given by r=(7^i+4^j). What is its initial position?

Solution

Here, y component of acceleration as well as initial velocity is zero.
So, the y coordinate of the particle will remain constant.
Now , acceleration along x direction = 4 ^i
Applying second equation of motion along x direction :
Initial velocity = 0
s = 12at2
= 18 ^i
Let initial x coordinate be p
p+18 =7
p = 11
Hence , the initial position of the object is 11^i+4^j.
