An object starts from rest, and moves under the acceleration $\to a = 4^i$ . Its position after $3 s$ is given by $\to r = (7^i + 4^j)$ . What is its initial position?

Solution

Here, y component of acceleration as well as initial velocity is zero.
So, the y coordinate of the particle will remain constant.
Now , acceleration along x direction = $4$ $^i$
Applying second equation of motion along x direction :
Initial velocity = 0
$s$ = $\frac{1}{2} a t^{2}$
= $18$ $^i$
Let initial x coordinate be p
$p + 18$ = $7$
$p$ = $- 11$
Hence , the initial position of the object is $- 11^i + 4^j$ .
