Question

An odject travels around a circle of radius 6m with speed 3pi m/s. Find the distance and displacement after 3s

Open in App
Solution

Distance travelled = speed × time = 3π × 3 = 9π

Circumference = 2πr = 12π m

In 3s it would have travelled 9π/12π = (3/4)th of the circle.

Displacement = Shortest distance between initial (A) and final point(B)

= √(62+62) m

= 6√2 m

In the triangle, AOB AB is the displacement which can be determined using Pythagoras theorem.
