Question

An old map was plotted on a scale of 40 m to 1 cm. Over the year, this map has been shrinking and a line originally 20 cm long is only 19.5 cm long at present. Solution

The correct option is A 21.23
19.5 cm on the map was originally 20 cm,
1cm2 on the map was originally

=20219.52cm2

125.50cm2 was originally

20219.52×125.50=132.0184 cm2

Scale of map was 1 cm = 40 m

1 cm2=1600 m2

Area on the ground = 1600×132.0184
=211,229.44m2

Since the chain was 0.05 m too long.

True area=20.052202×211229.44104=21.23 hectares
