Question

An open tank is 3m long and 2m wide and 1m50cm deep. Find the amount of paint required to paint its inside and outside, if 1kg of paint covers 20sq m.

Solution

Actually tank is in rectangular prism in shape
we don't have to paint top of tank as it is an open tank.
So area of base inside +outside =lb+lb=2lb
We have 4 side faces
=2hl+2hb=2h(l+b)
As we have to paint inside and outside
Total side faces area
=2*2h(l+b)
Therefore total surface  area of tank to be painted
=2*2h(l+b)+2lb
