Question

An ox can apply a maximum force of 1000 N. It is taking part in a cart race and is able to pull the cart at a constant speed of 30 m/s while making its best effort. Calculate the power developed by the ox.

Solution

Step 1: Given data

Force(F) = 1000N

Velocity(v) = 30ms1

Step 2: Formula used:

Power(P)= Workdone(W)time(t)

Where, Work done(W) = Force(F)×Displacement(s)

Now,

P=F×st

But, st=velocity(v)

Then,

P=F×st

P=F×v

Step 3: Calculation of the power developed by ox:

P=1000N×30ms1

P=30000Watt(W)

P=30kW

Thus,

The power developed by ox is 30kW.
