Question

An LCR series circuit with 100 Ω resistance is connected to an A.C. Source of 200 V and angular frequency 300 rad s1. When only the capacitor is removed, the current lags behind the voltage by 60. Solution

The correct option is B 2 A
Case-I: LR circuit (C-removed)

tanϕ=XLR

Substituting the data gives,

tan 60=XLRXL=1003 ......(1)

Case-II: CR circuit (L-removed)

tanϕ=XCR

Substituting the data gives,
tan 60=XC100XC=1003 ...(2)

Case-III: Since XL=XC, circuit is in resonance

Irms=VrmsZ=VrmsR=200100=2 A

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
