Solution

The correct option is C cytoplasm
Cellular respiration is the pathway of yielding energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells undergo cellular respiration. Cellular respiration that proceeds in the absence of oxygen is known as anaerobic respiration while the one that proceeds in the presence of oxygen is known as aerobic respiration.

Anaerobic respiration is the exclusive mode of respiration in some parasitic worms, many prokaryotes, several unicellular eukaryotes and moulds. We know that prokaryotes lack membrane bound organelles like nucleus and mitochondria. Thus, all their life processes, including cellular respiration take place in the cytoplasm.

Ribosomes are the protein synthesis machinery or the protein factories of a cell.

Nucleus holds the genetic material in eukaryotes. Prokaryotes lack a true nucleus.

Vacuoles perform functions such as storage, ingestion, digestion, excretion, and expulsion of excess water. These do not participate in respiration.
