In the colonial India, cricket was based on the principle of race and religion.For the British rulers, cricket was a played by those belonging to the superior race. It was used as a symbol of ‘superiority’ of their race. They did not pursue any interest to teach the game to the non-white natives in the West Indies and India because for them it is only mean for people with superior race and non-whites were of inferior race.
Calcutta Cricket Club was the first Indian club to be established in 1792. Throughout the eighteenth century, cricket in India was only played by British officials in all-white clubs and gymkhanas.
The Parsis were the first Indian community to establish an Indian cricket club.
