After Krishnadevaraya and Achyuta Raya Vijayanagara came under the rule of Sadasiva Raya.
As Sadasiva Raya was a minor, Rama Raya of the Aravidu dynasty ruled as his regent.
Ramaraya’s diplomacy expanded and enriched the Vijayanagara Kingdom.
The Deccan Sultanates frequently attacked Vijayanagara.
Rama Raya captured Vijayapura and Golkonda to avenge them, which sparked the war.
The Sultanates were jealous of the prosperity of the Vijayanagara Empire. So, they united against the Vijayanagara despite their political differences.
Thus, the Rakkasa Tangadi war began on the banks of the Krishna River on 23 January 1565, between the united army of Sultans and the Vijayanagara army.
Rama Raya died in the conflict and the Sultanates plundered Vijayanagara.
Rama Raya's sons fled to Penukonda and ruled from there.
The feudal chiefs of Mysuru, Keladi, Chitradurga, Yelahanka, and Surapur became independent rulers in Karnataka as a result of this war.
