Question

Analyse the position of inert gases in periodic table on the basis of their electronic configuration.

Open in App
Solution

Noble gases (inert gases) have completely filled valence shell. They are placed in zero group (group 18) of the periodic table.
Zero group is in between group 17 ( containing most electronegative halogens having one electron less than noble gas electronic configuration) and
group 1 ( containing most electropositive alkali metals having one electron more than noble gas electronic configuration).
Noble gases are neither electronegative nor electropositive.
